Description

RealTime LSS provides on-the-go access, making it convenient for quick assessments whether in the lab or in the field. This tool is designed to help users calculate important laser safety parameters, including:

MPE and AEL Calculations

RealTime LSS can determine the Maximum Permissible Exposure (MPE) – the highest level of laser radiation to which a person may be exposed without hazardous effects or biological changes to the eye or skin, and the Accessible Emission Limit (AEL) to calculate whether a laser product complies with its assigned class.

Fibre Optic Assessments

RealTime LSS includes a specialized tool for assessing the safety of fibre optic laser systems, which are commonly used in communications, medical, and industrial applications.

Diffuse Reflection

When a laser beam reflects off a non-specular surface (painted wall, fabric, etc.), it scatters in many directions. RealTime LSS can estimate the exposure risk from such reflections, taking into account:

  • Distance from the reflecting surface
  • Surface reflectivity
  • Incident power or energy of the laser
Laser Classification
to IEC 60825-1

RealTime LSS assists in identifying the appropriate laser class according to IEC 60825-1 (e.g., Class 1, 2, 3R, 3B, or 4) for a device based on:

  • Output power or energy
  • Duration and frequency of emission
  • Emission type (CW or pulsed)

RealTime LSS uses parameters such as emission duration, wavelength, and pulse characteristics to accurately calculate MPE and AEL limits for all laser classes.

Diffuse reflection calculations help assess risks in environments where beam reflections are likely, ensuring comprehensive safety evaluations.

Innovation from the Laser Safety Experts – Your Safety Starts Here

Lasermet’s RealTime Laser Safety Software (RTLSS) is an essential online tool for professionals working with lasers. This powerful software helps you quickly calculate critical laser safety parameters, ensuring compliance with international laser safety standards (IEC 60825-1). Whether you’re assessing laser exposure, determining safe working conditions, or selecting the appropriate laser protection for eyewear, this tool simplifies the process with accurate, real-time results.

Laser Calculator Guide

Inside a calculator, you’ll find panels to manage saved laser calculations, set laser operation modes, select source types and etc. Each of the four calculators provides different input fields for specific laser scenarios. The CW Settings panel allows you to enter key laser parameters: Wavelength (nm), Exposure Duration (s), Laser Power (W), Beam Diameter (mm), Beam Divergence (mrad), and Distance to Target (m). A Remaining Calculations counter tracks your usage based on your plan.

  • Detailed Assessment
    • Each calculation provides results on potential harm to the eyes and skin, as well as detailed beam properties, ensuring that all safety considerations are covered.
  • Multiple Calculator Options
    • Use different calculators based on your specific needs— whether you’re working with fibre optics, diffuse reflections, or other laser types.
  • Laser Class and Eyewear Recommendations
    • Receive detailed laser class information and recommendations on appropriate laser safety eyewear for any laser.
  • Mobile Optimisation
    • Access the calculator on the go. Whether in the lab or in the field, RTLSS is optimised for all mobile devices, allowing for fast and efficient assessments anytime, anywhere.
  • Save and Retrieve Data
    • Easily save, revisit, and review past calculations for continuous workflow efficiency.
  • Real-Time Updates
    • Stay up-to-date with real-time adjustments based on the latest safety standards, ensuring that all calculations remain accurate and compliant.
  • User-Friendly Interface
    • With a simple, intuitive design, RTLSS lets users quickly input parameters and retrieve results, enhancing productivity and reducing time spent on assessments.
  • Safety Standard Compliance
    • RTLSS ensures compliance with international safety standards like IEC 60825-1.

Infographics – key to a better understanding

RealTime LSS offers clear, easy-to-understand graphics that visually explain key laser safety parameters.

These include Beam Divergence, showing how laser beams spread; Limit Aperture, depicting the maximum allowed beam diameter for safe exposure; and Applicable Beam Area, which highlights the area of beam interaction for safety. It also shows Nominal Ocular Hazard Distance (NOHD), the safe distance for eye exposure, and Effective Nominal Ocular Hazard Distance (ENOHD), factoring in beam divergence. Additionally, Spectral Information outlines the laser’s wavelength range to ensure correct classification and safety.
